Most people rolled their eyes when another Amityville announcement hit the internet, but this time the studio actually put a real filmmaker behind it.

David F. Sandberg, the director of Lights Out and Annabelle Creation, is taking the lead. He has a clean track record of crafting scares that linger without relying on noise or shock cuts, so this might finally be the version that gives the house its edge back.

The new film is not just retelling the same family breakdown story. Early talk says it is aiming for a modern rebuild of the mythology rather than a beat for beat remake. That means new characters, new structure and finally moving beyond all the messy spin offs that buried the franchise over the years. The house at 112 Ocean Avenue might get a real second life if they let Sandberg lean into his style.
