The Best Underground Horror
Melissa Barrera is stepping back into horror again, and yeah, that is already enough to get people paying attention. This week brought news that she will star in “Inhabit,” a new psychological and supernatural horror feature written and directed by Adam Alleca, with sales launching in Cannes through Logical Pictures.
Barrera has built real genre credibility at this point, so this does not read like some random casting update tossed into the weekly pile. It reads like another smart lane choice. Horror has always been good at turning performers into fan favorites when they bring actual nerve to the screen, and Barrera has already proven she can hold that kind of pressure.
For horror fans, this is one of those announcements that instantly makes a title more watchable before there is even a trailer to tear apart frame by frame.
Alleca’s name also gives the project a little extra bite. If this thing lands, “Inhabit” could end up joining that long line of apartment and enclosed-space horror where the location itself becomes part of the attack.
That lane has given us everything from “Repulsion” to “Dark Water” to “Rosemary’s Baby,” so there is a lot of room here for something nasty if the execution is right. Right now, the hard facts are simple: Barrera is in, Alleca is directing, and Cannes is the launchpad. That is enough to get the horror crowd talking.
